A lonely suburban teenager from Long Island, Camille spends her time at the nearby skatepark. Until one day, she meets an eccentric all-girl skateboarding crew called Skate Kitchen. Despite her single mother’s objections to her daughter’s new entourage, Camille journeys deeper into New York’s urban jungle discovering the true meaning of friendship, young love and the taste of freedom. Crystal Moselle’s debut feature film is based on the Instagram feed of the real Skate Kitchen transformed into a cinematic coming-of-age tale. In light-flooded atmospheric sequences, she explores fluid and feminist identities, girlhood camaraderie and, ultimately, freedom.
