ARENA – Björn Kämmerer, 2018, 5:05 min [EN] A tension generating visual arrangement: rows of empty seats, which in their framing suggest an outdoor setting. This is the sole take shown in Björn Kämmerer’s 70mm experiment ARENA. However, a minimal shift in camera position seems to set the supposedly fixed seats in motion, and at the same time, topples a seemingly safe spectator position. We see what we see, but doubts still arise as to whether we can truly trust our eyes. (Diagonale) [DE] Eine visuelle Anordnung, die Spannung erzeugt: Reihen leerer Sitze, die in der Kadrierung ein Außen suggerieren. Mehr als diese Einstellung zeigt Björn Kämmerers 70mm-Experiment ARENA nicht. BETWEEN A WHISPER AND A CRY – Alberta Whittle, 2019, 41 min [EN] At the time Whittle began making BETWEEN A WHISPER AND A CRY, 2019, the Caribbean had experienced three consecutive years of devastating hurricanes and storms. The work speaks of memory, trauma and tensions between the land, the sea and the weather, revealing the precarity and privilege of geography. The soundtrack and visuals seek to evoke the feeling of being caught and submerged within a wave, asking us to consider our bodies as falling beneath the threshold, and how we can come up for air when the current is dragging us under. [DE] BETWEEN A WHISPER AND A CRY ist im Jahr 2019 entstanden, als mehrere Hurrikane verheerende Auswirkungen im karibischen Raum hinterließen, brisante Debatten zum globalen Ungleichgewicht der Klimakrise und folgedessen regionenspezifische Instabilität jedoch größtenteils verebbten. WHAT TIME IS MADE OF – Diana Vidrascu, 2019, 10 min [EN] What if you found a message in a bottle in the form of a sealed film can, which your younger self had sent 30 years ago? After processing this16mm film reel, I discovered that the sea had left its mark on the images and the film bears the memory of all the things it witnessed in its journey to land. However, these proved to be my own childhood memories. (Diana Vidrascu) [DE] Was wenn Sie eine Flaschenpost in Form einer versiegelten Filmdose finden würden, die Ihr jüngeres Ich vor 30 Jahren verschickt hatte? In der Bearbeitung dieser 16mm-Filmrolle entdeckte ich, dass das Meer seine Spuren im Bildmaterial hinterlassen hat und der Film die Erinnerung an all die Dinge trägt, deren Zeuge er auf seiner Reise zurück ans Land war. Es stellte sich heraus, dass diese meine eigenen Kindheitserinnerungen waren. is a two day celebration of cinema, the grand finale of Kaleidoskop's Fragmente edition of 2020 that had to be postponed due to the pandemic. We are all the more happy to finally invite the films and artists to the big screen and stage of @studiomoliere.
