What does a utopian living space look like – owned collectively, lived in communally? What is the syndicate of privately owned rental properties? Lotte Schreiber and Michael Rieper profile five self-organized and independently administered housing projects that were established between 1985 and 2015 in Graz, Gänserndorf, Vienna and Linz. Speaking to its initiators, residents, housing activists and architects, the duo explores different fault lines of shared living spaces, its origins and architectural presumptions, and the organic processes of manifesting collective utopias.
