Los Angeles mid-1990s, skateboarding and mixtapes, it’s about breaking social conventions and exploring youthful freedom. The shy 13-year-old Stevie grows up with his single mother and boorish older brother. When he meets a group of teenage skaters at the local skate shop, a new world unfolds. One in which, as the youngest by five years, Stevie seeks respect from his idol-peers and ultimately friendship. For his debut film as writer-director, Jonah Hill created an affectionate coming-of-age tale shot on 16mm film with a stellar soundtrack including the Pixies, Morrissey, Wu-Tang-Clan and original music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
