Milwaukee, USA. Medical transport driver Vic is having a tough day. Working on a tight schedule already, he also needs to take his Russian emigré grandfather and his friends to a funeral. Room is made for the guests in the temporary community of Vic’s minibus. But time and circumstances don’t seem to be on Vic’s side: The streets on their usual route are closed because of protests against racism and police brutality and he has to come up with a new plan. Trying to keep the growing chaos under control, he finds himself getting lost in a whirlwind of obligations, reassurances, the needs of the passengers entrusted to him, and his own dreams. Tumultuous and touching, Kirill Mikhanovsky’s urban road movie GIVE ME LIBERTY is a kinetic experience of immense power and veracity. The new route is lined with those small magical moments of human encounters and solidarity that get you through the day – even when you initially regretted you even bothered to get out of bed. (lm)
