Khadija falls asleep on the last subway train and wakes up on the other side of the city. On her long walk home through the empty streets of night-time Brussels, shopping malls, housing blocks and street corners become the scenes of chance encounters with the people of the night. Shot on 16mm, GHOST TROPIC subtly captures ordinary situations that are made relevant by the confident protagonist. Khadija’s nocturnal odyssey through the capital conveys the feeling of loneliness in an unfamiliar host country and prompts an intimate reflection on the appreciation of social working realities, economic exploitation through wage labour and cultural and religious differences.
